Augusta, ME- The Central Maine Mustangs hockey program dominated three periods of hockey to beat the Thomas College Terriers 5-4 Friday night.  Sean Coleman scored four goals and Joshua Ehirobo played stellar in net to help lead the Mustangs to the win.  

The Mustangs played three strong periods of hockey maintaining a strong offensive attack and were able to lock down the defensive zone.  Coleman opened the game's scoring with a breakaway score on a beautiful pass from Shawn O'Connell.  The first period finished 1-1.

"I felt we came out and established our game plan for the first 20 minutes.  We had a good week of practice and really worked our fore-check and I felt we came out and forced turnovers early," Coach Matt Poulin added.

The second period consisted of three Mustang goals, two from Coleman and one from Collin Sheehan.  At the end of two periods, the Mustangs were up 4-3. 

"I thought this was a huge period for us going into the third because we were hit with some adversity, were scored on, and still were able to respond well.  Generally speaking, we have struggled in the second period this year so it was nice to see them respond and play a great second period.  I think it really set the tone for the third period," mentioned Coach Poulin.

The third period kept fans on the edge of their seat.  After a fourth score for Coleman, the Mustangs jumped ahead 5-3. The 5-3 lead held until less than five minutes remained when Thomas scored on a 5-on-3 advantage to shorten the lead to 5-4. After Coach Poulin called timeout, the Mustangs were able to fend off the late push from the Terriers. 

Patrik Pearson (3), Shawn O'Connell, Jacoby Robinson, Brandon Bertoni and Ryan Kelley picked up assists in the game.  Ehirobo picked up 19 saves on the night and the win. 

Coach Poulin had this to add after the game, "We focused heavily on coming out with intensity and staying positive for three periods of hockey. We have been a third period team all year but we really wanted to get three periods of good hockey together. Tonight I saw a team that won the small battles, played solid defensively, and did all the small things right. I was extremely pleased with our performance against a well-coached Thomas team." 

The Mustangs hit the road Sunday to take on a strong New England College team at 4:00 PM.
