Hockey responds with dominant win over Bates

Auburn, ME - The Central Maine Community College Mustangs dominated 60 minutes of hockey to beat the Bobcats of Bates College 7-2 on Saturday night.  Jordy Knoren opened the scoring for the Mustangs and they never looked back.

The Mustangs came out flying in the first period blowing the gates open to a 2-0 lead early on.  Goals by Jordy Knoren and Drake Goupil helped the team gain momentum going in the second period.  "The first period is so important and we did a phenomenal job of coming out and setting the tone right away.  Getting pressure on them right away allows us to do a lot of different things as the game goes on" Coach Poulin stated.

Bates College got on the board early in the second to cut the deficit in half. Shortly after, the Mustangs responded with a goal of their own by Ryan Kelley.  As momentum shifted back with the Mustangs Sean Coleman added a tally late in the period to put them up 4-1 going into the final period.

Again, Bates scored early in the third period to cut the lead down to two and showed signs of life.  Drake Goupil scored the next two goals for the Mustangs finishing off his first hat trick and helping take the game back over.  Charles Campagna added a late power play tally to seal the game for CM.

"This was a big win for us responding from last night's loss. It was tough on us and we did a great job turning things around and coming out ready to go.  We played third strong periods of hockey and it is special to see what this team can do when we play our game," Coach Poulin commented.

The Mustangs take on Mass Maritime Academy tomorrow at home again to finish off the 3-day homestead.
