Women's Basketball routs Huskies in New York

Pottersville, NY - Coming off a sloppy performance on Wednesday, the Mustangs had a lot to prove in their HVIAC/YSCC Challenge opener against Word of Life. They wasted little time showing they had learned from their mistakes, jumping out to a 20-point first quarter lead and cruising to a 78-29 victory over the host school.

Balance was key for the Mustangs, who elected not to press for the entire game. Jade Smedberg (Oxford, ME) recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds to go along with 3 assists and 3 steals. Emily Strachan (Lewiston, ME) also recorded 12 points, 5 rebounds, 3 steals, and 2 assists. Destiny Mora Lopez (The Dalles, OR) was the third Mustang to hit for 12 points, while also recording 6 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals. Mikenzie Melendez (Saco, ME) was the forth Mustang to hit double figures, scoring 10 points and recording 8 rebounds in her best performance of her young CM career.

Kali Hayden led the Huskies with 13 points.

The Mustangs dominated the boards to the tune of a +40 advantage. All 16 Mustangs saw action, with 13 of them scoring. Only one player played more than 20 minutes (Smedberg).

CM will be back in action later today in the final game of the HVIAC/YSCC Challenge. They will take on the Knights of Berkeley College (NY) at 3:00pm
