Mustangs fall to nationally ranked CCRI

Warwick, RI - Playing their third road game in four days, the Mustangs went up against their stiffest test of the season against the Knights of CCRI (#4 in NJCAA National Poll). Despite being tied at 52 entering the fourth quarter and having a point-blank chance to tie the game with less than 10-seconds left, the Mustangs faltered, 71-68.

Emily Strachan (Lewiston, ME) connected on four triples, leading the Mustangs with 16 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 blocks and 3 steals. Luna Love (Zwolle, Netherlands) was the only other Mustang in double-figured, finishing with 11 points (three triples). Jade Smedberg (Oxford, ME) played incrfedibly well, finishing with 9 points, a game-high 12 rebounds, 5 steals, 3 assists, and 2 blocks.

The Mustangs simply could not overcome unforced errors (29 turnovers), fouls (24 compared to just 10 on CCRI), and the foul shot differential (CCRI shot 23-26, while CM shot 6-9).

CM will get another crack at CCRI later this month when they host the Knights in Kirk Hall on Sunday, January 29th at 1:00pm.

With the loss the Mustangs fall to 15-2 on the year but remain unblemished at 7-0 in the YSCC. They will be back in action Tuesday, January 24th when they host Paul Smith's College.
