Women's Soccer drops tough road game

Albany, NY - Coming off a big win in South Portland on Wednesday, the Mustangs hit the road for their first New York trip of the season. It was an important Yankee Small College Conference matchup against last year's USCAA National Champions, Albany College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences.

A late arrival due to traffic delays left the Mustangs with a very short warmup time, but they started off at a fast pace regardless. Albany would strike first on a long shot by Ka'ena Kehano assisted by Mya Wright just over 16-minutes into the contest. The early goal did not phase Central Maine and they increased their attack and began to pressure the Panthers.

In the 36th minute, Natalie Tracy (Oakland, ME) curled in a direct kick from just outside the penalty area to level the score at 1-1. The Mustangs ended one of the best halves of soccer they have played all season with a tie score.

The second half saw the Panthers put more pressure on the Mustang net with an increased attack but Central Maine continued to turn them away and added attacking pressure of their own. However, Albany would get the go-ahead goal in the 68th minute on a shot by Julia Roemer assisted by Shannon Donnelly.  They would add a third to put the game on ice two minutes later when Kehano scored her second of the game. The Mustangs spent the final twenty minutes attacking the Panthers net but would come up empty.

Albany keeper Mykala Brodzinski made 12 saves for the win while Central Maine keeper Emma Knowles (Manchester, ME) took the loss with 7 saves.

The Mustangs head another 2 ½ hours west to Syracuse, NY tomorrow to take on SUNY ESF in 1 pm kickoff before heading back to Auburn Saturday night.
