Women's Soccer rolls past UMA in convincing fashion

Auburn, ME - The Mustangs needed a rebound game after a difficult weekend in New York and they got one in front of a large home crowd for "Spirit Day". The Mustangs scored early and often, winning 7-0.

Prior to the game, Head Women's Soccer Coach, Rob Rodriguez, warned his players not to take this game lightly, "UMA is coming off a big win, they are well coached, and they will be in better shape than they were during the first week of the season. The longer we allow them to hang in the game the more trouble it can be."

It would only take the Mustangs just under ten minutes to get on the scoreboard when Katie Blouin (Greene, ME) broke through the Moose defense on a pass by Alexis Finn (Wales, ME) to put Central Maine up 1-0. It would stay that way for a while with the Mustangs applying constant pressure but coming up empty until the 37th minute mark when Natalie Tracy (Oakland, ME) got her first of the game off a feed by Mya Sirois (Monmouth, ME) to double the Central Maine lead. Three minutes later Finn would get a goal of her own after being set up for a breakaway by Tracy to send the Mustangs into half-time with a 3-0 lead.

The Mustangs picked up the pace in the second half and allowed their fitness level to wear down the Moose. Four minutes into the half, a handball in the box in front of the Moose net led to a penalty kick conversion by Lakyn Hink (Porter, ME) to put Central Maine up 4-0. Four minutes later Tracy would get her second of the game off a pass by Blouin for a 5-0 score. The Mustangs began to put subs into the game replacing some midfielders but two who had not come out yet connected again in the 75th minute when Finn fed a pass to Hink who scored her second of the game. Just under the final ten minutes, Emily Dillman (Wales, ME), after moving up from outside back to attacking mid, found the net for her first goal of the season off a pass by newcomer Nicole Salvadori (Windsor, ME) to give the Mustangs a 7-0 lead which ended up as the final score.

Emma Knowles (Manchester, ME) and Ava Simpson (Lewiston, ME) split goalkeeping duties with each taking a half and making 2 saves each to secure the win. Moose goalkeeper Haley Guilmet took the first half with Hope Lovell taking the second half with each making 8 saves in the loss.

The Mustangs head back to New York this weekend for a crucial Yankee Conference matchup against Paul Smith's College who sits at the top of the standings both in conference and nationally. Game time is Saturday Oct 7th at noon.
