Women's Soccer falls to Unity in final home game

Auburn, ME - The Lady Mustangs played their final home game of the season against the visiting Unity Rams. The game was played as a Breast Cancer Awareness Game in honor of one of the Mustang moms, who, before the game, was presented with a t-shirt signed by the team. The game was much more evenly played than the final score would indicate. Elizabeth Cormier (Lewiston, ME) repeatedly came off her line to challenge the Ram attack and turned away 17 shots in the first half. Those saves allowed the Mustangs to transition to offense and the game was played up and down the field. It took Unity ten minutes to score and for most of the first half it was a 2-0 game. Megan Duval (Jay, ME) broke through the Unity defense several times just barely missing the net. The first half ended at 3-0 but the score could very easily have been 3-2 or 3-3 if not for a few inches on some Mustang shots.

The second half saw the Mustangs come out very flat and Unity scored seven goals in a ten minute stretch at the beginning of the half. CM eventually collected themselves and began to play the final twenty-two minutes of the game were played up and down the field with Unity held scoreless. The game ended 10-0 in favor of Unity but if not for that ten minute stretch at the beginning of the second half, it would have been a relatively evenly played match.

The Lady Mustangs are back in action on Tuesday when they travel to South Portland to take on the SMCC Seawolves.
