Lawrence's Goguen to join Women's Soccer

Auburn, ME - Lawrence High School senior, Dakota Goguen (Benton, ME), has committed to play soccer at CM.  Dakota is an extremely versatile player with experience at every position on the field so she will likely be a 90 minute player for the Mustangs being moved around into different positions according to what the team needs in the moment.

Lawrence High School Coach Pete Sears says of Dakota, "She is a worker and will give her absolute maximum effort to achieve her individual and team goals.  Her flexibility and versatility make her an asset to any team from playing goalie to any other field position.  She is fearless and aggressive but clean in her style of play and she is a positive contributor with her teammates, giving them guidance when she feels it would help their game.  Dakota brings energy, intensity, and a pure love of the game to any team."

Her premier club coach for the past four years, Dwane Blomerth of Central Maine United, says "Dakota is always energetic and ready to step on the field, whether it's for practice, a game, or just a kick-around.  She is very involved in the discussions before, during, and after the game and always wants to know what the coach is looking for and how she can play her position better.  Dakota is a fearless player with good speed, who wants to always learn more".

CM Women's Soccer Coach, Rob Rodriguez, commented that "Dakota has been on my radar since early September because her name was familiar to me from the premier club world, and when I finally got to see her play at our recruit day she definitely exceeded my expectations.  Her field awareness and instincts are what caught my attention.  Her versatility will make her very valuable to us because we teach multiple systems that allow the players to change formations and roles during the game which keeps our opponents off-balance and will make us a very hard team to scout and prepare for."

According to Gogeun, "I chose CM because it has the course of study I plan to pursue, and due to how welcoming the faculty, staff, and students were at both of my visits.  Getting an opportunity to play college soccer was a bonus, which is really exciting.  As far as the campus goes, I liked how close together everything was. I am going to enjoy not having to walk across campus to get from one place to another."

She continued, "I think playing college soccer will be very different compared to playing high school soccer, however, I am ready to take on the challenge.  I look forward to working with a new team and coach, and building a bond together through the years I will be there.  I think what I can offer to the team is my ability to play anywhere the team needs me, from striker to keeper.  I find myself being very vocal on the field to try and make the team aware of their surroundings.  I am willing to distribute whatever the team needs whether it's a pass or a shot on net.  Most of all I look forward to creating a bond with the team through sportsmanship and dedication."
