Mustangs lose at Fort Kent

Fort Kent, ME – A strong shooting performance and a balanced scoring attack wasn't enough Saturday as the Mustangs lost on a buzzer beater at the University of Maine at Fort Kent by an 82-81 score.

In a back and forth game, CM played hard, were focused, and got up and down the court. Despite the five-hour drive, energy wasn't the problem. To match the hot shooting by the visitors, the home squad also shot the ball well, hitting 52% of their three's and matched that with 48% from inside the arc. This was a traditional shootout with solid play on both ends.

The Mustangs went on a 10-4 run in the last three minutes to go up by one point. A key turnover by CM in the last minute allowed the Bengals another chance. They delivered on that chance to go up 79-78. With 13 seconds left on the clock, Jackson Birmingham drove to the basketball and was able to get an 8-foot shot but missed but Harry Bates collected the rebound and put it in with 2.2 clicks on the clock. This put the Mustangs up by one point.

After a time out, the Bengals Katsuya Sasaki went the length of the court and heaved up a shot at the buzzer which banked in and drained the CM faithful.

Boston Caldwell led the Mustangs with 19 points followed by Cam Pollock and Wyatt Hathaway with 15 points and Harry Bates added 10 points.

The Mustangs take a much-needed Thanksgiving break off and will be back in action on Tuesday, November 28th when they travel to the Augusta Civic Center to play the UMA Moose.
