Pollock's Heroic's Lead Mustangs to Final Four

Randolph, VT – Cam Pollock came off the bench to hit for 20 points in an 8-14 shooting performance today to lead the sixth-seed Mustangs to a 78-68 win over third-seed Vermont University.

In an intense game, and with the season on the line, the Mustangs took their "A" game and jumped out to an early but small lead.  A back and forth first half had the visitors heading to the locker room up by three at the half, 32-29.

A 14-5 blitz early in the second half propelled the lead to ten points and the squad kept building on that lead.

Coach Gonyea responded, "we talked all week about the importance of this game.  Nobody wanted it to end here.  Kudo's to Cam as he was an inspiration to our team.  Between him and Jackson, they held Calvin in check all night and didn't allow him to get untracked.  We have a lot of respect for Vermont and especially Coach Hughes.  It was an important win.  We have never made it to the Yankee Final Four and you can bet that was on my mind!"

Jackson Birmingham led the attack with 16 points, 14 rebounds and 6 assists.  Harry Bates dominated the glass, hauling down 13 rebounds to go along with his 10 points.  However, this was it Pollocks night.  A steady performance, he hit key 15 footers in the second half to get the lead to double digits.

One of the keys to the game was containing Vermont's savvy playmaker, Jaylon Calvin.  Between Birmingham and Pollock, they held him to a 2-19 shooting night, but he still amassed 10 rebounds and 5 assists.

The Mustangs now travel to NHTI next weekend for the Yankee Conference Final Four.  CM will play SMCC at 12pm on Saturday.
