Cross Country Races at Maine State Meet

Auburn, ME – The Central Maine Community College men's and women's cross country teams competed at the Maine State Meet hosted by Bates College on Saturday afternoon. The Mustangs finished 9th out of 12 schools in their first official race of the season.

The women's team competed on a six kilometer course. Elise Schultz (32:26.3) and Abby Therriault (36:11.2) led the women's team in their first 6k distance this year. The rolling hills and extremely competitive field made for a tough race, but both runners held their own as they look to qualify for the YSCC Championships.

The men's team ran on an eight kilometer course. Joshua Bradford (30:41.1) and Brosnan Comeau (31:38.2) led the way for the Mustangs, finishing 69th and 77th respectively in the 109 runner field. Both runners stayed with the lead pack during the first two kilometers and settled into their pace to post personal bests in the 8k distance.

Coach Brian McDonald was impressed with the Mustangs depth, as Zachary Peirce (33:55.5), Owen Heseltine (34:31.2) and Mark Schepici (40:44.1) all had strong races to post a 9th place finish in the event dotted with NCAA D1 and D3 schools.

CMCC hits the trail again next Saturday when the teams travel north to Thomas College for a meet in Waterville, ME.
