Palmer Back at the Helm of CM Baseball

Auburn, ME – CM athletic director Dave Gonyea is pleased to announce former CM baseball great, Ryan Palmer, has taken over the Mustang baseball program.   Palmer, a 2000 graduate of Mountain Valley High School attended CM and played baseball for the Mustangs from 2001-04.  He was a first team Yankee all conference pitcher, threw two no hitters at CM and, part of the 2002 squad that traveled to Tampa, Florida to play in the USCAA World Series.  He was inducted into the Mustang All-Decade team in 2010.   In eighteen years of coaching at the high school level, he has over 150 wins, two state championships, 4 conference titles, and named MVC coach of the year four times.

Palmer comments: "I am thrilled to be back at CM and taking over the baseball program.  I cannot thank AD Gonyea for his confidence in me and providing me this opportunity.  CM has always felt like home to me.  At this point in my coaching career, I felt it was a good time to take on the challenge of being a college coach. I am hoping for a 25 man roster this fall, however, with everything going on with this pandemic, it won't be easy.  Reaching out to potential players is hard when I cannot go out and see them play."

He continues, "my main goal is to establish the program with the way I want to run it.  If the kids buy in to what I want to do, the wins will take care of themselves."

AD Gonyea states, "Coach Palmer is a familiar face to Mustang faithful.  He bleeds the colors, and referred many players to CM over the course of his high school career.  He has his work cut out for him in the recruiting battles, but knows the game, knows CM, and knows how to win.  I think long run, this is a good move both for him and the college.  I am delighted he is back."

Palmer lives in Rumford and has a 4-year-old son named Eaton.
