Mustangs Nab Colebrook's McCowen

Auburn, ME – Head men's baseball coach Ryan Palmer is pleased to announce Dillon McCowen, a 6'1" pitcher from Bloomfield, Vt and a senior at Colebrook Academy has committed to the Mustangs for the fall of 2021.   He will be studying Criminal Justice at the college.  According to Coach Palmer, "Dillon is going to fit in perfectly at CM. The way he carries himself and his work ethic is second to none  He is a top of the rotation type pitcher and has a very good command of all his pitches- with well above average velocity. Having Dillon at CM will be a game changer for our program."

Dillon answered the questions below:

Why did you choose CM?

When looking at colleges I was looking for a college close to home. I knew I wanted to go to a community college, so I looked at many colleges in New Hampshire, and Vermont. When I was looking at the schools, I didn't feel like they would fit my lifestyle. Then I began looking at schools in Maine. I looked at a few Universities and Community Colleges and finally came across CMCC. I was looking for a good school that had a good Criminal Justice program and an environment that I would be comfortable in and CM seemed to be the best fit. I contacted Coach Ryan Palmer right away to talk about playing baseball for CM, and he and I had a great conversation and I knew for sure after that I wanted to study at and play baseball for CM.

What did you like most about the campus?

When I first got to the campus I could not get over the location and the view. You look over the beautiful lake and you're surrounded by the trees, which made me feel like I was at home right away. It's very quiet and peaceful and you don't hear all the noises from the city.

How do you think playing college baseball will differ from your previous experience?

It's always a big jump when playing at higher levels of the game whether it's little league to high school or college to pro. I'm going to be playing different competition, and excited to be able to advance to the next level.

What are you most looking forward to about attending and playing baseball at CM?

I have always been interested in Criminal Justice and law enforcement so I am excited to begin learning and studying this field. I also can't wait to play baseball with some other great players and form some chemistry and bonds that will hopefully remain even after college. I love being a part of a great team with a great coach for a great college.

What do you think you can bring to the team next year?

There is no doubt that the team will always see 100% from me whether it's practice or a game. I have a passion for this game and I always strive to be better than I was the day before.

Describe your baseball experience.

I've been playing baseball for as long as I can remember. I grew up being a normal kid playing t-ball and little league with my friends. I played basketball, soccer, and baseball growing up but in my Freshman year of high school I chose to strictly commit to baseball. I started high school travel baseball down in Concord New Hampshire that year and I've been playing there ever since.

What is your biggest strength in baseball?

My biggest strength is my work ethic. I always work hard to be the best player I can be.

Dillon's favorite quote:

"When you want to succeed as bad as you want to breathe then you will be successful."

Dave Gonyea, the college athletic director got the chance to meet Dillon and remarked, "Dillon is the kind of player we are trying to build around.  Committed, dedicated, and an all-around great kid, he will be an impactful player for us.  I am really looking forward to see him play!"

At Colebrook Academy, Dillon was a high honor student involved in student council and was a New Hampshire Scholar.
