Men’s Hockey Skates Past St. Vincent 4-1

Pittston, PA – CMCC Men's Hockey team picked up its eighth win of the season on Saturday afternoon, knocking off the Saint Vincent College Bearcats 4-1 in a penalty-filled contest at the Revolution Ice Center. It was the Mustangs second win in the second day of their three-game ACHA showcase in Pennsylvania.

Four different players scored for Central Maine and Gage Ducharme picked up his third win of the season in net with a 22-save performance. Both teams combined for 23 penalties in the game and had nine power play chances each.

"It was probably the most physical game of the season," said assistant coach Parker Springer. "But we overcame it to pick up the win. The fourth line set the tone, keeping pucks in the zone and winning battles along the boards all day."

The game stayed scoreless past the halfway point of the contest. Mikita Kalmykov put the Mustangs up 1-0 at the 11:27 mark of the second period. Evan Knowlton skated into the zone and left a drop pass between his legs for the Belarusian forward who buried his shot from the slot over the blocker of goaltender Vinny Amatucci.

Michael Belleau then made it 2-0 with a power play strike four minutes later. The North Yarmouth Academy product knocked home a rebound after Kalmykov's shot in tight was stopped, scoring his fifth of the season.

Colby Pawson also scored his fifth of the campaign, finding the net 2:44 into the third period to make it 3-0 CMCC. Pawson's goal came off an offensive zone face-off. Cody Ivey knocked down a clearing effort in the high slot then hammered a shot that Pawson redirected through the five-hole.

Jacob Holtzman spoiled the Ducharme's shutout bid with a power play goal four minutes later to cut the lead back down to two. However, Aaron Higgins put the game on ice with a four-on-three tally. The Falmouth, ME native beat the goaltender short side from the left circle with 3:34 left in the game. It was Higgins' 14th goal of the season having scored in eight of ten games played.

The Mustangs finish off their three-game road trip on Sunday morning before returning home to host the University of New England Nor'easters on Sunday, November 10th.
