Mustangs drops two at SMCC

South Portland, ME - The Mustangs traveled to in-state rival, Southern Maine Community College Tuesday night, dropping both games of a doubleheader.

Game 1 - Mustangs 0 Seawolves 4

Sage Reed had a strong performance in the circle striking out 10 batters. Reed, having her strongest performance of the young fall season, gave up only 3 hits, allowed 4 runs (1 earned), while walking none.

Seawolves pitcher Sarah Wilkens picked up the win.

Allee Wellman led the Mustangs with 2 hits. Sam Withee added a hit and a stolen base as well.

The Mustangs committed 3 errors allowing the Seawolves to capitalize.

Game 2 - Mustangs 5 Seawolves 6

Game 2 saw the Mustangs get on the board first when Paige Ouellette had a ground out RBI, scoring Miah Gallan in the bottom of the first. Then, in the bottom of the first unfortunately another untimely error allowed the Seawolves to tie the game up. This was a close game throughout until a couple more errors by the Mustangs allowed the Seawolves to hold on for the victory. The Mustangs had their chance in the top of the 5th inning with bases loaded and 2 outs but Alyvia Perrault went down swinging to end the game.

Lauryn Wood got the start for the Mustangs going 3 innings, allowing 6 hits, striking out 1, and walking 1. Alexis Michaud pitched 1 inning, allowing 2 hits, striking out 1 and walking 1.

Jada Case picked up the win for the Seawolves.

Miah Gallan, Megan Watson, Sage Reed, Allee Wellman, Logan Arsenault, and Emily Libby each collected hits for the Mustangs.

Megan Watson, Paige Ouellette, Logan Arsenault, and Alyvia Perrault each had stolen bases for the Mustangs.

After the game, Head Softball Coach, Bruce Robertson stated, "Sage pitched really well today we just did not give her the run support she needed. Both teams had solid pitching and the team to make the first error was going to lose the game and unfortunately it was us. We have to find a way to limit errors. With three errors in game one and four errors in game two it makes it really difficult to win ball games. Game two we got things going a little better. Both Lauryn and Alexis did a fine job in the circle and we hit the ball better in game two, but again errors got us. Once we solve this problem we will be in a better place and put ourselves in better situations to win ball games."
