Mustangs drop home opener to NHTI

Auburn, ME - Playing their third game in four days after a long weekend road trip, the Lady Mustangs looked tired and lacked energy against a young NHTI Lynx team playing their first game of the season. In spite of that, the game was evenly played up and down the field with both teams trading opportunities but coming up empty in a first half that ended 0-0.

A change in formation at the half allowed the Mustangs to attack in more numbers and ten minutes into the second half freshman Mya Sirois (Monmouth, ME) put in a rebound off NHTI goalkeeper Madison Lima to put Central Maine up 1-0.  The Lynx leveled the score 16 minutes later on a cross by Emily Knouse that found an unmarked Kallessia Selby in the six yard box to tie it up at 1-1. Eleven minutes later Knouse would break through the Mustang defense for the game winner.  The final five minutes had the Mustangs on attack with some good quality chances at the Lynx net but coming up empty and the game ended 2-1 NHTI.

Shots on goal were even at 5 each for the two teams and Mustang goalkeeper Emma Johnson (Monmouth, ME) went the distance for Central Maine.

The Mustangs are back in action at home this Friday, September 10th at 5 pm v USCAA Div I Bryant & Stratton-Albany.
