South Portland, ME -  The Mustangs Women's Soccer team arrived in South Portland looking forward to their first matchup of the year with their in-state rival Southern Maine Community College Seawolves.   The day would not turn out the way they wanted.

After some very early chances at the Seawolves net at the beginning of the game, the tide turned early on a Seawolves goal by Ammelia Lunt on a mishandled ball in the 4th minute of play to put Southern Maine up 1-0.   The play would then go back and forth but the Seawolves controlled the midfield for a greater part of the half reducing the opportunities for Central Maine.  In the 19th minute, Southern Maine went up 2-0 on a goal by Desiree Veilleux that snuck by the near post off a corner kick.   That would be all the scoring for the first half that saw a shot differential slightly in favor of the Seawolves with 9 to the Central Maine 7.

The second half continued in the same manner but a quick goal by Brittany Verrill two minutes into the half put the Seawolves up 3-0 and the Mustangs knew this might be a hole too deep to dig out of with the way the game was going.   Paige Lord from Southern Maine would then score two goals, one in the 61st minute and one in the 68th minute to complete the scoring for a 5-0 Seawolves win in a game that was shortened by 15 minutes due to a sudden tornado warning in the area.

The Mustang goalkeepers split the game with Emma Johnson (Monmouth, ME) taking the first half and Allie Annear (Auburn, ME) taking the second half.

Central Maine is back in action at home on Saturday September 18 in a 2pm contest against Yankee Conference opponent Albany College of Pharmacy in their first ever visit to Auburn.
