Mustangs Win on the Road at Bryant Stratton

Albany, NY - On the first leg of a three-day road trip, the Mustangs Women's Soccer team traveled to Albany, NY to take on the USCAA Division I Bryant & Stratton-Albany Bobcats. It was the second meeting of the year for the two teams, the previous one was a 5-0 victory at home two weeks ago.

The 5-hour trip led to a slow start for Central Maine and an energized Bobcat attack that put the Mustangs at a quick 1-0 deficit on a goal by Amarnie Kooyoomjian. Central Maine would earn it back after a Rachel Dunn (Marshfield, MA) corner kick found Macie Fletcher (Wales, ME) on the far post for Fletcher's second goal of the season to tie the game at 1-1. Emma Johnson (Monmouth, ME), playing on the field for Central Maine instead of in the net would soon put the Mustangs up 2-1, scoring her first collegiate goal on a rebound off a shot by Samantha Belardo (Russell, MA).

Bryant & Stratton was not going to go easily, however, and a long shot by Amy Leon just under the cross bar tied the game at 2-2. Some adjustments at midfield allowed the Mustangs to begin to gain control and a scramble in front of the net on a shot by Johnson found Kaylee Knight (Chesterville, ME) in just the right spot to put Central Maine ahead by 3-2. The Mustangs were not done yet. A Kaitlyn Baker (Skowhegan, ME) shot off a pass by Johnson found the back of the net to close out the first half scoring with Central Maine up 4-2.

The second half saw the Mustangs control play and they would get one more goal off an "own goal" by the Bobcat defense. Allie Annear (Auburn, ME) went the distance in goal for the Mustangs and made 4 saves on 6 shots on goal to earn the win.

Central Maine is back in action tomorrow, Saturday, September 25th, on the road at Paul Smiths College in Paul Smiths, NY for a 1 pm Yankee Conference matchup.
