Women’s Soccer Beaten By Husson 6-0

Bangor, ME – The Central Maine Community College women's soccer team finished off its slate of games against NCAA Division III opposition with a 6-0 loss on the road against Husson University.

The Eagles scored three times in each half, completing a season sweep of the Mustangs. Five different goal scorers got on the stat sheet for the hosts, with nine total players registering at least a point. It was the first time this season CMCC had been kept off the scoresheet themselves.

Husson took the lead in the sixth minute from a corner kick. Sami Orest served the ball into the box. Senior captain Caitlin Haley took it off her chest, forcing a point blank save from goalkeeper Emma Knowles. The ball pinballed off the knee of Mackenzie Lambert, and while Knowles was able to dive back and claim it, the linesman ruled that it had fully crossed the line.

The second goal also came from a corner. In the 11th minute, Cassy Schiller was left unmarked in from Knowles and forced a scramble on the delivery. Lambert's shot was blocked on the line, but the rebound fell to Orest who poked it home for the 2-0 lead.

Olivia Charles then made it 3-0 with a great piece of dribbling. The sophomore from West Virginia took a pass from Haley and weaved her way into the box before smacking a low shot just inside the left post.

Destiny Mooers had the best chance to pull one back for CMCC. With four minutes to go before halftime the first year from Hampden Academy swiped the ball off the foot of Marila Corletto to race into the box one-on-one with the goalkeeper. But Mooers' shot was right at Hannah Kenney who parried it to safety.

In the second half, another good piece of passing gave Husson its fourth goal with 13 minutes played. A throw-in in the attacking third allowed Charles to dribble down the end line before cutting a pass back to the six-yard box. Senior Kate Harriman was wide open to convert a quick one-time shot.

Addi Laslie then popped up to score two goals in two minutes for the hosts to complete the 6-0 scoreline. In the 81st minute Ebba Gumaelius played her through on goal for a left foot finish inside the far post.

Less than two minutes later Laslie's left foot again found the target. This time Adtison Clark sending a through ball into the box to find the junior from Ellsworth, ME cutting diagonally towards the near post. The angle was tighter the second time around, but the result was the same, with a well aimed shot hitting the side netting.

Central Maine now turns its attention to the rival Southern Maine Community College Seawolves. The Mustangs host them for a non-conference game on Wednesday, September 18th at 4:00 pm in Auburn.
