CMCC Drops Road Visit to UMaine-Fort Kent

Fort Kent, ME – The Central Maine Community College women's soccer team suffered an 8-0 loss on the road to the USCAA D1 UMaine-Fort Kent squad on Friday afternoon, ahead of their start to the YSCC conference portion of their schedule this weekend.

The Bengals pounced on the Mustangs early, taking a 6-0 lead at halftime. Petagay Dixon started off the scoring in the 5th minute, while freshman Shaniah Johnson and senior Nancy Martin each scored a brace in the first half.

Britney Charles scored in the 41st minute to give UMaine-Fort Kent the comfortable advantage at halftime, with the sophomore from Grenada finding the back of the net again five minutes after the restart.

The Mustangs did a better job of holding the Bengals at bay for large stretches in the second half. Hannah Lovely completed the 8-0 scoreline with a 78th minute goal, completing a great day for the freshman center back who also dealt out three assists in the match.

"I did come away with some positives," said head coach Rob Rodriguez. "Obviously not from the scoreline, but in terms of getting some experience for some of our younger players, and how we improved in the second half and played better against one of the best teams we'll face this season."

UMFK outshot CMCC 24-3 on the afternoon. Mustangs goalkeeper Ava Morgan made five saves, playing the full 90 minutes for the second time this season.

Central Maine next plays its first YSCC match of the season when the Mustangs host the Paul Smith's College Bobcats on Sunday, September 22nd. Kick-off is scheduled for 11 am on a busy day for CMCC that will also have home games for men's soccer, volleyball, and men's hockey.
