The 2017 Men's Soccer season started off with the expectation, and hunger for a successful season. Preseason was productive for the Mustangs, and it was chalked full of hard work, intensity, and a shared vision of what the team wanted to achieve this season.
Their potential was proven in the first game hosted by the University of Maine at Machias. Holding back an impressive Machias squad, the Mustangs came away with a 2-1 loss. After that close season opener, the Mustangs were eager for a win and worked tirelessly in practice the following week. Their persistence paid off, resulting in enough fire power to earn two conference wins over Hampshire College and Vermont Tech. Unfortunately the momentum halted with an overtime loss to Unity College and another loss to College of St. Joseph. To wrap up the September games, CMCC came out strong against rival SMCC and the game turned out to be a defensive highlight reel ending in a 0-0 draw in double overtime. The mustangs received their first loss of October to the Colby College Club 2-1. The following weekend, CM trekked across New Hampshire and Vermont to play Paul Smith's College in upstate New York playing in excellent form and delivering Paul Smith a 3-0 Loss.
October turned out to be more ill-fated for the men's squad as several key injuries plagued the team and they fell short of the success they desired, losing a key conference game at NHTI.
The successes of the 2017 season were found in the effort and solidarity of the entire CMCC team. That strength was complemented nicely by determined players such as defensive standout and captain Cody Dollof, midfield standout Evan Blanchard, and forward Abdullah (Iraq) Jashaami. Jashaami had a productive season up top as a forward, netting a total of 9 goals this season and earning a spot on the YSCAA All-Conference team.
The team ended the regular season with a Yankee Conference record of 3 wins and 4 losses and an overall record of 3-7-1. With the promise of several impressive newcomers, a large group of returning players, a strong off-season , and a new pitch, the men's coaching staff are more confident than ever that the direction, results and attitude of the men's soccer program are all positive.
