Auburn, ME – Head Men's Basketball Coach, Dave Gonyea, is pleased to announce the first commitment for the 2018 basketball season. Chris St Pierre from Waterford, ME, a 6'3"guard, is a senior at Oxford Hills High School and has been a four-year member of the varsity basketball team and captain both his junior and senior years.
St. Pierre has been on Coach Gonyea's radar since he was a freshman. According to Gonyea, "I remember watching him as a freshman thinking how poised he was for his age. As we all know, most freshman don't even see the floor. He has played with some prime time players and held his own. In the following years, he developed a slight edge, call it that thin line between cocky and confidence that I really like. It also helps he can really shoot it. He will be a perfect fit into our system."
Along with being a four-year varsity player, Chris was honorable mention KVAC all-conference, a 4-year MBR Preseason Showcase All-Star and twice a Next Level All-Star. Chris now holds the career-high 3-point shooting record for Oxford Hills, surpassing the record set in 1990 by All-Conference player Dan Ladd.
Why did you choose CM?
Chris: I chose CM because I felt as though it was the best decision for me. It's away from my hometown but not too far so if I need to go home I can. The school itself is small which I like because it's not out of my comfort zone. I found they have a good business program to help me in the long run.
What did you like most about the campus?
Chris: What I liked most about the campus is that it is in a rural community just outside the city. It's small and not intimidating when you first arrive there and it is inviting.
How do you think playing college basketball will differ from your previous experience?
Chris: I think that playing college basketball will differ from my previous experiences because it is a lot faster, a lot more aggressive and the talent pool is a lot better in college then it is in high school.
hat are you most looking forward to about attending and playing basketball at CM?
Chris: The relationships with other people on an off the court. The team seems very close now and I want to be a part of that where I look forward to going to practice every day, or just going and doing something with them.
What do you think you can bring to the team next year?
Chris: I think that I can bring long-range shooting, unselfishness, good vision, winning mentality, work ethic and swagger.
Describe your basketball experience.
Chris: My basketball experience is something that I couldn't imagine my life without. It has been such an impact on my life and has been there for me through everything. I've seen and been to a lot of places that I wouldn't have gone to if it weren't for basketball.
According to Chris's mom, Jennifer St Pierre, "Watching Chris develop over the years has been so rewarding. He has overcome many obstacles to become not only a stronger basketball player, but one that is looked to for consistency and leadership. We are thrilled that Chris will be playing for a team that has so much heart at a school that offers great academic programs. He will continue playing the sport he has loved, lived and breathed since he was nine years old and we are so excited that we get to watch! We couldn't be prouder that CMCC was his choice!"
