Mustangs continue to bolster defense

Auburn, ME - The Central Maine Community College hockey team continued to strength its roster with the school year approaching, adding former Maine Wild defenseman and Biddeford, Maine native Dylan Demers to the fold for the 2019-20 season. Demers, a hulking 6'2", 190 pound blueliner, is the latest addition to a completely remodeled Mustangs defense.

"Dylan is a splendid addition to our squad," said Mustangs head coach Matt Buotte. "We really wanted to improve our blue line. Dylan had been someone we had really wanted to come here. He does so many things well--he can play all situations, has great size, and has tremendous ability in all three zones. We are absolutely thrilled that he's chosen to be a Mustang."

Demers had an explosive start to his 2018-19 season derailed by injury after just 12 games, where he had tallied 8 assists for the NA3HL's Maine Wild. It was Demers second stint with the Wild. He had also posted 16 points in 43 games in 2016-17 where he was among team leaders in scoring.

Sandwiching his two stints for his local junior club was a productive stint for the Jersey Shore Whalers USPHL premier club. There, Demers posted 3 goals and 5 assists in 35 games for the club while amassing 84 penalty minutes during the 2017-18 campaign.

"I feel like I can bring a strong offensive game to the blue line," said Demers of his new role. "I can back it up with smash mouth, blue collar type play as well. I've never been one to back down."

Demers, who eschewed his final year of junior eligibility to join the Mustangs, is looking forward to a fresh start.

"I'm excited to take a step forward," he said. "I was impressed with the simplicity and the comfort that the Central Maine campus and staff provide. I'm happy to have the opportunity to get an affordable education while still playing the sport I've been in love with for 16 years."

Demers intends to study business when classes begin in a few short weeks with the ultimate goal of earning a bachelor's degree.

"Dylan is a top class kid," said Buotte of the latest recruit. "He's going to be a leader on this club. He's been there, done that in his career and I know he's looking forward to a new challenge. He's going to make our locker room better, our team on the ice better, and he's going to be a great addition to the campus. He's going to be a great fit here and we can't wait to see him on the ice."
