Mustangs Fall on the Road 9-2

Hanover, NH. – Joe Signorelli had 5 goals and an assist, Jack Mascali had a goal and helped set up 5 others, and Michael Cullen turned aside 21 shots as Dartmouth outpaced Central Maine Community College by a final count of 9-2 at Thompson Arena on Sunday.

Big Green came out flying, playing their first game of the 2019-20 campaign. They outshot the Mustangs 20-4 in the first period and would end the first with a 3-1 advantage. After Dartmouth would strike first from the top of the right circle, Central Maine would respond to level the contest at 1. Austin Taylor would score his second in as many games, sneaking between the Big Green defense and squeaking one through Cullen off of a beautiful feed from Zac Brown.

Dartmouth would add a power play goal and another at even strength to take the 3-1 lead into the middle frame. From there, Cullen would steal the show and make two crucial saves that would prove pivotal. The first came on a 2-on-1, with Sean Coleman having his initial shot and follow-up denied. Warren Karlberg would meet the same fate moments later on the man advantage, as Cullen turned aside two quick chances to keep the score at 3-1.

From there, Dartmouth would deliver a staggering blow, with Santorelli flying in and slipping a shot through Mustangs goaltender Ben Feldman, who was making his first collegiate start. The shorthanded tally would give Dartmouth a 4-1 lead midway through the contest.

The Mustangs showed some resiliency, with Zac Brown finishing a beautiful Sean Coleman feed on a 3-on-2 rush to cut the deficit to 4-2. The goal was Brown's first of the season and second point of the night.

Dartmouth would add another before the end of the second to push their lead to 5-2, though the Mustangs equaled the hosts in shots at 13 a side in the middle period.

Dartmouth's offense would prove too much for Central Maine in the long run, with Big Green adding four more goals—including two more shorthanded tallies and a power play goal with one second to play—to secure their first win of the season by a 9-2 count. It was Dartmouth's first win in five tries all-time against Central Maine. The teams will meet again on January 24th when the Mustangs host their Ivy League rivals at Norway Savings Bank Arena.
