2019 Softball Season Outlook

Auburn, Maine— The Central Maine Mustangs Softball Team will continue to build on their 2018 season and will return five players from last year's squad. SS Alex Bessey (Jay, ME), 1B Cagney O'Brien (Newcastle, ME), 2B Samantha Belardo (Russell, MA), Keara Hunter (Wiscasset, ME), and C Alexandra Sult (Lisbon, ME). Second-year Head Coach Bruce Robertson will look to continue to revamp the program after leading the team to a 4-9 record just a season ago when the Mustangs batted .239 on their way to scoring 52 runs. This is up from 11 runs and a winless 2017 season.

Megan Theriault (Lewiston, ME) now takes over in the circle replacing Olivia York who carried the Mustangs in 2018. Theriault, the hard throwing right hander and graduate of Lewiston HS will now look to take the Ball carry the load for the Mustangs in 2019.

It has now been a few years since the Mustangs were last in the YSCC Championship. They were Runner Ups for two consecutive seasons in 2012-13, and Coach Robertson is building to bring back the winning ways to Auburn. Taking over a winless team in 2017 the Mustangs played to a 4-9 record the 2018 season, CM returns 5 players from 2018 season while they made some key additions to the 2019 team.

The infield led by Theriualt in the circle will be joined by second-year infielder's Bessey, O'Brien, Belardo, Sult, and first-year 3B Sierra Wallace (Phippsburg, ME). The outfield will have an all new look be anchored by Tabie Tlumac who will be joined by a combination of Utility Players, Hunter, Stephanie Jones (Wiscasset, ME), Skyler Henry (Waterford, CT) and Marah Hall (Madison, ME).

This spring season the Mustangs open with a non-conference scrimmage on 3/31 with UNE Club Team then proceed with four game series 4/5-Friday and 4/6-Saturday conference foes NHTI. The Mustangs have a quick turnaround Sunday 4/7 with two non-conference games at CCRI and Monroe College. The Mustangs will then travel 4/9 to Rival SMCC for a weekday double-header then travel to St. Joseph (VT) for a weekend series on 4/12 and 4/13 games. The Mustangs then go back to SMCC for another weekday 4/23 double header and then end the season with a four games series on 4/26 and 4/27 at Great Bay Community College and then another non-conference 4/28 double header visit to CCRI. All in All the Mustangs have 22 games scheduled with conference games against YSCC-opponents that include College of St. Joseph (VT), New Hampshire Technical College (NHTI), Great Bay Community College and Southern Maine Community College.

CM will then round out its 2019 spring season when they compete in the YSCC Championship Tournament at Great Bay Community College which will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2019.
