Women's Soccer lands local forward

Auburn, ME - Mustangs Women's Soccer Head Coach, Rob Rodriguez, is pleased to announce the commitment of Desiree Roussel from Edward Little High School in Auburn.

According to Coach Rodriguez, "At some point every fall we like to take a look at the local talent because there are some excellent players within a short distance of our campus. Local players tend to bring local interest to a college program so we made time to go see Edward Little play one of their big rivals only a few miles away and it didn't take long for Desiree to become the focus of our visit. She is a physically strong player with good speed and ball handling skills who plays with the physical presence and aggressiveness of someone much bigger. She has the instinct to take the shots she is given but she is also just as willing to set up a teammate with a good pass. Desiree is a good 1v1 player and her willingness to battle for every ball and make the right decision to shoot or pass will make her a good addition to our Mustang offense."

Edward Little High School varsity head coach, Miles Bisher, added, "Desiree is excellent at playing with her back to pressure and maintaining possession. She is able to control the ball and maintain possession long enough to combine with a secondary run off the ball or turn and go to goal. She plays with a fierce attitude and is not afraid to be physical and take a beating from opposing defenders. She uses her body well and will go through people in order to score. Desiree has a high soccer IQ and makes smart runs off the ball and also looks to combine with teammates in the attacking third. She also scored a beautiful header off a corner for us this year and frequently attempted to finish balls in the air throughout the season."

Desiree commented, "I chose CM because of the smaller campus and it being close to home. I am looking forward to continuing my education while still being able to play. I feel playing in college will differ from high school because the players are more experienced and it will be more of a challenge but I can bring a fresh mind and a positive attitude, both on and off the field."
