Women's Soccer adds to their back line

Auburn, ME - The Central Maine Mustangs Women's Soccer team is thrilled to announce the addition of Oak Hill defender, Josie Hackett, to their 2020 recruiting class.

Oak Hill varsity girls coach, Jeremy Young, commented, "Josie is a tenacious defender who makes good choices, covers for her teammates and makes timely slide tackles. She is able to launch the offense from the back and make positive runs with the ball. Josie does not accept mediocrity from herself."

According to Mustangs Head Coach Rob Rodriguez, "It is unusual for us to recruit more than a couple of players at the same time from the same high school team but Coach Young seems to be producing players who are a perfect fit for us in a lot of ways. They are multi-dimensional athletes with a strong work ethic and skill sets that translate well to our style of play."

Josie will be one of three Oak Hill players in the Mustangs incoming freshmen class, along with Julia Noël and Macie Fletcher, who will be reuniting with Mustangs second-year defender and USCAA All-American, Jade Sturtevant.

Coach Rodriguez found Josie in what has become a typical scenario lately, "We went to an Oak Hill playoff game with Jade with the intention of simply taking another look at Julia and Macie and we ended up noticing their tall defender who was continually playing out of the back. This is not something many high school defenders are good at, but it is exactly how we play. Josie is a very aggressive defender with good speed, and a willingness to carry the ball.  We saw an intense player who is a risk-taker, and that is the type of player who will shine in the moment, when you need them to. When paired with Jade in the back, a teammate she is used to working with, it gives us a good combination of players with very opposite personalities and styles, both of whom can attack out of the back while also covering for each other."

On her commitment, Josie said, "I chose CM because it was a nice campus, close to home, and a very affordable school. I feel as though playing college soccer will differ from high school because it is faster, more physical, and more competitive. I am looking forward to meeting new people and bringing a good attitude, aggressive style, and hard work to the team."

Josie is a high honors student at Oak Hill who earned Mountain Valley Conference (MVC) Second Team All-Star honors in her junior year. She will be studying in the Life Sciences degree program while at CM.
