Get to Know Women's Basketball Freshman, Jasmine Ramos

Jasmine Ramos (Kissimmee, FL) will be a freshman this fall at CM, and will be playing women's basketball for the Lady Mustangs.  Ramos, who played for Coach Barner Cooks at Osceola High School, averaged 10.5 points, 10.2 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3.5 steals per game for the OHS Lady Kowboys.  During her career at OHS, Ramos was a 3-year captain, a 3-time 1st-Team All-Osceola County selection by the Orlando Sentinel, a 2-time 1st-Team Orange Belt Conference All-Star, an FBCA All-Star, and named team MVP this past season.

How did you hear about Central Maine Community College?
JR: Originally I heard about the school and women's basketball program from Nohemy (Aguila), who played there this past season.  From there I connected with Coach Morong.

How did playing for Cook Cooks at Osceola High School prepare you to play at the college level?
JR: College basketball is very fast paced, so Coach Cooks really made it stick in my head that I have to play with a sense of urgency.  So this fall, the transition between high school and college ball won't be so drastic.

Ultimately, why did you choose CM?
JR: I chose CM because I really wanted to get out of my comfort zone and truly experience being on my own.  From talking with Nohemy and Chanel (Chillers), I heard great things about the coaching staff and the bond they have with the team.  CM also provides me with the opportunity to continue my basketball career, and hopefully earn a full scholarship at another school.

What are you most looking forward to about going to college in the state of Maine?
JR: I'm excited about experiencing the culture; it will be very different than what I am used to, and the beautiful scenery.

What is your overall mission, in regards to college (basketball and academics included)?
JR: I'm really focused on developing my game to prepare myself for a higher level of basketball, and potentially earning a scholarship. I also know that I need to keep my head in the books and take advantage of this new opportunity.

What are the passionate and loyal CM fans going to like most about your game?
JR: They are going to like that I'm not afraid of contact, and that I love to take it to the paint strong.  I never take any opportunity or play for granted, so if that means diving on the floor for a loose ball or saving the ball from going out of bounds, than that is what I am going to do.

At the end of your first collegiate basketball season, how do you want the team to be remembered?
JR: I would like us to carry on the program's legacy and tradition.  On top of that, no matter how far we go, I want us to be remembered as humble and hard-working.

The Lady Mustangs begin their 2013-14 campaign in October as they look to defend their back-to-back Yankee Conference Championships.
