With their victories over Southern Maine Community College yesterday, the CMCC men's and women's basketball teams each clinched the Yankee Small College Conference Regular Season Championship and the #1 seed in the YSCC Elite 8 Tournament next week.
Both teams achieved this accomplishment in convincing fashion. On the men's side, the Mustangs completed a perfect 16-0 conference tilt, while the Lady Mustangs finished conference play at 14-0.
The men's basketball squad clinched their first regular season crown since 2008. In conference play, the Mustangs averaged 105.8 points per game, while giving up an average of 79.1 points.
The Lady Mustangs won their second consecutive regular season title and have not lost a conference game since 1/23/2012. In conference play the Lady Mustangs averaged 90.9 points per game, while giving up just 50.2 points.
Both squads head to Concord, NH on Saturday to take on NHTI in a non-conference matchup. This will be the last regular season contest for both teams - with the YSCC Elite 8 beginning next Thursday in South Portland.
