Central Maine Community College head women's basketball coach, Andrew Morong, announced Tuesday that Susie French (Greenland, NH) and Maggie McConkey (Fryeburg, ME) will captain the 2013-14 Lady Mustangs.
"I am very excited that Susie and Maggie will be leading our team this season. They both lead in different ways and complement each other nicely," Morong said of the duo. "Their work ethic, commitment, and emotional investment into our program have been obvious for a long time now."
Both French and McConkey were members of the Lady Mustangs team last year that finished 23-5 overall and undefeated in the Yankee Conference. The 2012-13 team won the Yankee Conference Tournament for the 2nd straight year, and competed in the USCAA National Tournament.
Individually, both French and McConkey had successful seasons last year and made improvements to their game during the off season.
French was the Yankee Conference Player of the Year, a USCAA 1st Team All-American, and a USCAA Academic All-American. The combo guard concluded the season ranked 2nd in the Yankee Conference in points per game, field goal percentage, and steals. She scored 511 points in her first year as a Lady Mustang which was the third highest season output in the program's history.
McConkey became one of the most improved players in the Yankee Conference last year, grinding her way into the starting lineup for the Mustangs in late January, and earning the team's Most Improved Player award. She finished 10th in the conference in steals per game, 5th in assists, and 4th in assist to turnover ratio. McConkey was also named to the Yankee Academic All-Conference team for her efforts in the classroom.
