Women's Basketball Picks Up Commitment from Macy Welch

Carrabec's Macy Welch has committed to play women's basketball at CM next season.  Welch was a dominate force for the Lady Cobras during a memorable season, which saw Carrabec win the Class C Western Maine Championship for the first time in school history.

This past season, Welch was a Maine McDonalds Senior All-Star, a Mountain Valley Conference (MVC) 2nd Team All-Star, a MVC All-Academic Team member, and a WMTW Channel 8 All-Tournament Team selection.  Welch's season was highlighted by a 19-point, 10-rebound double-double vs. defending state champion Wayneflete in the Western Maine Class C Quarterfinals.

Welch, on attending CM next year, "I chose CM because I felt like it was the perfect fit for me.  It was the perfect size, and being able to play for this basketball program makes this an even better choice.  I have been able to spend a lot of time around Coach Morong and the team, and have enjoyed every second of it."

"I think that my weight training and my coaches pushing me, both on and off the court, in high school has helped me become a stronger player.  I am hoping I can bring a lot to the team next year, as I am more versatile then I was in the past.  I am willing to play inside or out, wherever Coach Morong thinks is best." continued Welch.

"We indentified Macy as a potential recruit the summer before her junior year when we did a clinic for Coach Skip Rugh at Carrabec High School.  We could tell she was going to be a special player back then, but what she did this year for the Lady Cobras was inspiring.  Her presence in the paint and improved versatility helped anchor a special season for Carrabec.  Macy has already committed to the weight room and improving her perimeter game and the results have been phenominal, which bodes well for her as she makes the jump to our level.  As we work with her to further expand her versatility, she will blossom into a high impact player on both ends of the floor.  Knowing that she comes from a high school program that has grown so much over the last several years and has seen hardwork truly payoff is also exciting.  Her blue-collar work ethic is going to take her a long way, on and off the court, during her time here at CM." said Head Women's Basketball Coach, Andrew Morong.

Carrabec Girls Varsity Basketball Coach, Skip Rugh, on Welch, "Macy is a coaches dream, she works hard every second.  She is willing to do whatever is asked of her to help her team be successful.  CMCC is very lucky to have such a committed student-athlete, and as a bonus, an oustanding role model as well."
