Mustangs Esports Spring '25 - Week #4 Recap

Super Smash Bros Ultimate

SSBU took on in-state rival Husson University in their ECAC Division B contest, winning the match 2-0 behind back-to-back 12-10 scorelines. The Mustangs fought through a tough Isabelle lead-off who took four or five stocks in each round. The win does move Mustangs Esports to 2-0 against the Eagles on the year following their win in the fall semester.

The Super Smash squad also had some fun on Wednesday, heading out to an in-person tournament at the Buffalo Wild Wings in South Portland. Jayden "Inari" Feliberty, Richard "OneStock" Johnson, Jade "Polestar" Fortenbacker, and Garrett "Orkiwan" Davis were joined by Esports Coordinator Andrew Garza to compete in the double elimination swiss bracket. Richard "OneStock" repped the Mustangs colors by taking down his coach to advance to the top 8 bracket, running Incineroar.

EA FC 25

In week 4 EA FC 25 action, Fabrice "whoisfabii01" Mvula took down his opponent from Dallas Baptist University 2-0. The first game was a tightly contested 7-6 result, but once whoisfabii01 got the first "W" in the best-of-three he cruised to a 7-1 win in game two. He now sits at 2-2 overall in the season.

Valorant

Valorant bounced back from its first loss of the semester two weeks ago looking ready to go after a bye week. The squad of Brayden "Bumble" Hiltz, Owen "Glakknar" Brousseau, Lillianna "beanz" Noel, Andrew "nxjang" Bishop and Jacob "prolify" Auger, defeated the Milwaukee School of Engineering Raiders 2-0 in fine fashion, taking map one 13-2 before closing it out 13-4 on map two. The improve to 2-1 in ECAC Division C.

Rocket League

The Mustangs Esports Rocket League squad had to take its second straight forfeit as the team made up of basketball players prepped for their weekend playoff game on the court.

Overwatch 2

In Overwatch 2 play, the Mustangs suffered a 3-0 loss to Rider University. The team of Cade "Kenku" Merrill, Jamie "CornFlakes" Cole, Evan "YUNGMANCHIE" Manchester, Nolan "GalaxyKid" Kay, and Ian "Ryuk" Scott have struggled so far in ECAC Division B play, sitting at 1-3 on the semester.

Call of Duty

The nationally ranked Call of Duty team only had two competitions to participate in this week, playing ECAC and CXP.

In a hotly contested ECAC Division A game against national powerhouse Wichita State University, Mustangs Esports managed to pull out a 3-2 win after falling behind 0-2. The Shockers took map one hardpoint 250-178 before taking search and destroy 6-5 to take a commanding lead. CMCC rallied with a 3-1 victory in control, then hung on in a nail-biting hardpoint battle 250-243 to set up a winner-take-all search and destroy round in map five. The Mustangs took that 6-4 to complete the reverse sweep and move to 3-1 in the ECAC's top division.

The team of Caden "Asylum" Bedney, Ethan "EthanCOD" Deneau, Idelmaro "Delo" Andrade, Ihzayah "Zay" Marcellus also faced St. Clair College's second team in CXP league play. The Mustangs had a much easier time in that match, taking it 3-0 with a 250-134, 5-0, and 3-0 in the three respective maps. With their bye in College COD play, the squad sat at #5 in the national rankings.

Mustangs Esports has already reached its goal of earning 60 wins this year to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Central Maine Community College. The program's overall combined record now stands at 65-38 for the 2024-25 school year.
