Mustangs Esports Spring '25 - Week #3 Recap

Super Smash Bros Ultimate

SSBU fell to Bloomfield College of Montclair State University on Monday, 0-2. The Bears mauled the Mustangs in game two 12-4 after a 12-7 victory in game one, dropping the team of Jayden "Inari" Feliberty, Richard "OneStock" Johnson, Jade "Polestar" Fortenbacker, Garrett "Orkiwan" Davis, and Jacob "Mr. Fun and Games" Knight to 2-1 in the ECAC Division B standings.

EA FC 25

Fabrice "whoisfabii01" Mvula was bested for the second week in a row, this time at the hands of the College of William and Mary, 0-2. Game one was the closer of the two, ending 4-2. The second game saw the Griffins close things out 5-0.

Rocket League

The Rocket League squad had to take a forfeit loss to the University of Idaho with their three-man squad of Ben "Bizzy" Francis, Miles "Ilovefotball12" Spear, DeSean "de5e4n" Trufant on basketball duty. The Mustangs game with archrival SMCC understandably took priority.

Overwatch 2

Overwatch 2 was also a forfeit last week, this time in the Mustangs favor though as John Jay College did not have enough available players to compete. That moves the team to 1-2 this semester.

Call of Duty

The Call of Duty squad participated in ECAC, College COD, and a CXP tournament last week. In College COD play on Monday the team of Caden "Asylum" Bedney, Ethan "EthanCOD" Deneau, Idelmaro "Delo" Andrade, Ihzayah "Zay" Marcellus went 2-0 with a forfeit win over Navy and a 3-0 victory against the University of Ottawa. The Mustangs have moved up to #5 in the national CCL rankings.

In Wednesday's ECAC Division A play, Central Maine suffered its first COD defeat in any competition this semester, losing 3-2 to #8 Fisher College in a rematch from the opening week of College COD play. The Falcons took map one hardpoint 250-167. The Mustangs responded by winning search and destroy 6-4 and control 3-1 to take a 2-1 lead in the best-of-five. However, after another hardpoint victory on map four 250-180, Fisher sealed the win with a 6-3 search and destroy result.

On Sunday, Mustangs Esports competed in CXP Major 1 for the semester. Teams compete for a $100 first prize with nine teams qualifying for the final tournament. CMCC beat Baldwin Wallace University 2-0 in the opening round of double elimination play. Next up, was a 3-1 win over #9 Newberry College in the winner's bracket quarterfinals and a 3-1 victory against the Rochester Institute of Technology in the semis. In winner's finals, the Mustangs lost 1-3 to #6 Mars Hill University. The team had the opportunity to play in the loser's backet finals but did not have Idelmaro "Delo" available due to traveling for an amateur tournament. Central Maine settled for a third-place overall finish.

The victory over RIT did get Mustangs Esports to a major milestone in the season, earning the program's 60th win that they have been building towards to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Central Maine Community College. The teams' overall records now stand at 60-36 for the 2024-25 school year.
