Call of Duty
Mustangs Esports Call of Duty competed in College COD and CXP this week with a bye in ECAC play.
In College COD, the #6 ranked Mustangs took on the #1 team in the country, Fisher College, falling 0-3 in a hard-fought battle. The Falcons took map one hardpoint 250-247 on Vault. They secured map two search and destroy 6-2 before finishing the sweep with a 3-0 win in control. It was the team's first loss in CCL play.
In CXP they had both league play and the second major of the season to compete in. First up, a 3-1 victory over Syracuse University. Mustangs Esports won hardpoint before the Orange evened it up in search and destroy. Map three and four victories in control and hardpoint gave the win to CMCC.
Central Maine received the #4 seed in tournament play among the nine teams that qualified for the major competition. In the first match of double elimination play, the team beat Rochester Institute of Technology 3-1. The #8 ranked Newberry College team was up next with the Mustangs taking another 3-1 victory to book a spot in winner's finals. #5 Mars Hill University pushed CMCC into the loser's bracket final after a 3-1 defeat, setting up a rematch with Newberry for a place in the Grand Final. This was a much closer battle, with Central Maine needing a 3-2 "Neslo" win, coming through with a pair of search and destroy victories and in control, but losing both hardpoint maps.
The Mustangs needed to take two best-of-five series against the Mountain Lions to claim the tournament victory but fell in the first rematch 3-2. Mars Hill won map one hardpoint 250-241 and map two search and destroy 6-0. CMCC rallied back with a 3-0 win on map three control and a map four hardpoint victory 250-96 in what is known as a "100 point club" when you hold an opponent under 100 points. Mustangs Esports needed a victory in map five search and destroy to complete a reverse sweep but fell by a score of 6-3. Central Maine improved on their third-place finish in the first major of the year by taking the runner-up spot on Sunday.
"It's good to see Super Smash Bros and Valorant continue to grow off their success from last semester," said Esports Coordinator Andrew Garza. "Hopefully with Call of Duty jumping to the front of the pack they will set a new standard for success as a team for Mustangs Esports."
Mustangs Esports has already reached its goal of earning 60 wins this year to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Central Maine Community College. The program's overall combined record now stands at 71-43 for the 2024-25 school year.
