Men's Soccer Slips Past NMCC in Two Overtimes

The CMCC 2013 Men's Soccer Team opened the season on the road against Northern Maine Community College Saturday afternoon in Presque Isle.  The Mustangs established themselves as the better team and controlled the opening 10 minutes of play, but it was NMCC who quickly jumped ahead to a 2-0 lead.

With six minutes left in the half Brandon Morissette provided Dylan Mawhinney with a great cross and the Mustangs found the back for the first time this season.  CMCC's momentum was suppressed when NMCC scored on a long ball and a bad bounce with just two minutes remaining until half time.  The score was 3-1 NMCC at the half.

It became obvious in the second half that the Mustangs were the stronger team.  Darine Gnidehoue scored with a hard shot from outside after receiving a drop pass from Mawhinney.  NMCC wouldn't back down and again scored giving them a 4-2 edge.  However, the Mustangs strong pressure and possession resulted in two more goals. Morissette provided another great pass, this time to Brady Fenderson who found the slightest of openings and scored with a well struck ball.  Lastly, Morissette returned the favor to Mawhinney who deserved his own goal brining the end of regulation tally 4-4.

The first overtime passed without many chances for either team. Two minutes into the second overtime, midfielder Nicholas Record put a shot on goal that the NMCC keeper couldn't hold onto.  CM Defender Nasir Abdirahman followed the rebound and won the game.  CMCC goalkeeper Jeremy Hamm allowed three goals on five shots in the first half and Zachary Jackson allowed one goal on four shots.  Evan Favreau and Jeff Wierzbicki were outstanding on defense for the Mustangs.
