Softball fall season in review

Auburn, ME  - The Central Maine Mustangs Softball Team wrapped up their fall 2019 season on Saturday October 19th with a pair of wins against Merrimack Club. The new look Mustangs, with 11 first year players, and captained by second year Megan Theriault (Lewiston, ME) finished their fall season with a record of 8-5-1. Third year Head Coach, Bruce Robertson was joined in the dugout by Anny Nielsen (2nd year) and Makayla Nadeau (1st year).

The Mustangs started their preseason with double sessions in late-August and unveiled their new multisport athletics turf complex in September which was available for day and night games for multiple sports including baseball, softball, and men & women's soccer. The turf complex allowed the Mustangs to rotate practice times between day and night with no worry of field conditions.

The Mustangs opened their fall season on the new complex against the reigning YSCC Conference Champions NHTI on Saturday, September 7th in double-header action. They split with the defending YSCC Champions. The Mustangs then picked up a couple wins on Tuesday 9/17 home for mid-week double-header as they battled UNE Club under the lights. The Mustangs then hosted Rhode Island Community College (CCRI) on Sunday 9/22 where they split with a tough out of conference foe. The Mustangs then returned to Concord N.H on Saturday 9/28 to battle conference rivals NHTI where they again split with the Lynx. The Mustangs returned home on Saturday 10/5 where they dropped 2 games vs Northeastern Club then had a quick turn around as they hit the road to Road Island on Sunday 10/6 to again battle CCRI in a non-conference double header where the Mustangs won 1 game and left game 2 with a tie. The Mustangs then completed their fall season on Saturday 10/19 at CM open house where they took on Merrimack Club and finished the season strong with 2 wins.

Coach Robertson commented, "This was a good fall season for us. Having three coaches helped improve us in all areas. It is always tough recruiting players to a team and see how they gel with each other, but this team bonded quickly during summer workouts. We put a lot of pressure and set some high expectations for our players and they responded well. We played some solid teams this fall picking up some big wins while being able to see what our roster can produce on the field and at the plate. Now we will hit the gym for our off-season workouts as we prepare for the spring season with our eyes set on playoffs."
