Holyoke, MA—The Mustangs got back to their winning ways on the road today knocking off Holyoke Community College 73-68.
After spending the day touring the basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, the boys traveled 10 short miles north to Holyoke to end a two game losing streak. Holyoke came out firing with big man Marquise Caudill hitting shot after shot enabling the home team to take a slim lead for the first 10 minutes. Adjustments by the Mustangs on the defensive end forced turnovers and allowed the visitors to forge ahead and take a 35-31 halftime lead.
It is said few plays change a games tempo like dunks and charges. The Mustangs buy into that concept and proceeded to rack up 7 charges to take away any dribble penetration Holyoke could muster all game. Despite CM building a 17 point lead, the home team would not go away. Holyoke kept creeping back into the contest and cut the lead to 5 points before the final buzzer sounded.
Rob Skinner (Winsted, CT) led the Mustangs with 22 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists. However, his biggest contribution came on the defensive end frustrating Holyoke's guards all game long. Carrington Miller (Bingham, ME) was held to 10 points. A stat that jumped out is the balanced rebounding contributions by the Mustangs. Along with Skinners 7 rebounds, Kaleb Benjamin (Belfast, ME) took down 7 rebounds, Miller's had 6 rebounds, Jordan White (Providence, RI) hauled down 5 rebounds, and Jonathan Moore (Bridge City, TX) chipped in with 4 rebounds.
After arriving home around 2am, the Mustangs host conference foe Great Bay Community College at 3pm tomorrow at Cozy Kirk Hall.
