Georgia Prep Star Commits to CM

Auburn, ME – Cornelius Lawhorn, a 6'3 power forward from Warner Robbins, Georgia and graduate from Middle Georgia Prep School, has committed to Central Maine.   Lawhorn is a two sport athlete having played both basketball and baseball in high school.  On the court, he was all region second team his junior year, first team his senior year, and senior year rated as one of the top defensive players in the state of Georgia.  A 58% high school field goal shooter, Cornelius also led his team in free throw attempts, steals and shooting percentage.

Cornelius answered the questions below:

CM: Why did you choose CM?
Cornelius:  CM gives me a real family atmosphere. The basketball team and coaching staff have shown me a lot of love and interest during my past season and the recruiting process. After visiting the campus and spending time with the team, I knew right away this was the school for me. Coach Gonyea and his team are respected and thought of very highly by myself and my family and I'm ready to be a Mustang!

CM:  What did you like most about the campus?
Cornelius:  It's a good size campus with a great look, and i don't have to travel very far for anything. I also love that i can get into the gym at any time of day and work on my game.

CM: How do you think playing college basketball will differ from your previous experience?
Cornelius:  I played against a few college teams at Middle GA Prep and we won a majority of them but you never know how good you are until your skills are put to the test and i plan on having a good season and bringing a championship back to CM!

CM: What are you  looking forward to about attending and playing basketball at CM?
Cornelius:  The things I am most looking forward to this year are winning a championship, getting to know my teammates better, and becoming a part of the CM basketball family. Also I'm looking to further my education and be a stand up student.

CM: What do you think you can bring to the team next year?
Cornelius: I feel like I will bring a great defensive presence, a great scoring ability, and be a great teammate who all my teammates will respect and relate to on and off the court.

CM:  Describe your baseball experience?
Cornelius: Baseball has always been a huge passion of mine and ever since a young age I've been very successful on the diamond. Now playing college baseball at CM i will continue this and hopefully assist in bringing CM a baseball championship.

CM: What is your biggest strength in baseball?
Cornelius:  My biggest strengths on the field are my field play, batting strength, speed and pitching ability!

According to Men's Basketball Coach Dave Gonyea: "Cornelius spent a few days with us visiting and really connected with our present players and coaching staff.  He is a well-mannered, respectful, young man who wants to part of something special. He comes from a strong family unit who is very supportive.   On the court, he can be a presence, works well with his teammates, and gets after it!   I am thrilled he is coming to Auburn."
