Auburn, ME - Meet Patrick Dexler, the voice of Mustang athletics! Affectionately called "Dex" Pat has been announcing for the Mustangs since September of 2016, started with the Fall Baseball season. When asked about what his favorite sport is to cover, Dex said, "That is a loaded question. But I would have to say, after learning more about the sport this past Fall, it has to be softball. I really enjoyed the pace and rhythm that is similar to baseball but better in a different aspect." Dex favorite sport to watch as a fan though, is hockey. He believes it's about the only sport he can sit and watch. When he goes to a baseball game in the summer, he can't really pay attention to the game without wanting to do something. "It's a part of when you get used to working during games, you can't just stay still," says Dexler.
During a game, his role is the game manager, which means everything that goes on at the scorer's table is overseen by him. It does take several people to make a game or games run smoothly, but Dex is the one to prepare everything for success. During our basketball games, he works with the software in charge of running our music, the jumbotron, the scorers table graphics, statistics and the scoreboard. "It can be overwhelming at times, especially when it's not working the way it should be." His favorite game that he has covered at CMCC, is the YSCC Women's Basketball Championship in 2019 when the Mustangs won it over the SMCC Seawolves on home court. This was a big game that eventually led them to the National Championship in 2019. "I say so far because every year always seems to have a special game or games. A more recent game was when CM Baseball beat SMCC 4-3 at home back on September 29, 2021." We see a common theme in the Dex's favorite moments as an announcer for the Mustangs being games against rival SMCC.
When asked about future aspirations, Dex says one day he hopes to be discovered as an announcer for a professional sports team. It could be any major sport (baseball, basketball, football, hockey). Although he definitely wouldn't mind covering college sports either, especially softball.
