Mustang Softball Season Preview

The Mustangs, finished their fall season with a record of 9-4-1. Head Coach, Bruce Robertson was joined in the dugout by Abby Nielsen, Daryl Fernald and Sonja Morse. Coach Robertson commented, "This was a good fall season for us. Having four coaches really helped improve us in all areas. Coach Abby being a former player and starting in the community college system and transferring to a 4 year school is a valuable asset and is great with the players. Daryl coming in as the hitting and Assistant coach has been great. He really ingages the players and has helped improve their hitting. Sonja coming on board as the pitching coach has been huge. She has improved all of our pitchers physically and mentally for the season! The players have all improved It is always tough recruiting players to a team and wonder how they will gel, but this team bonded quickly during our summer strength and conditioning sessions and then took off once they hit pre-season. We put a lot of pressure and set some high expectations for our players and they responded well. We played some solid teams this fall picked up some big wins while being able to see what our roster can produce on the field and at the plate. After hitting the gym for our off-season workouts I feel we are prepared for the spring season with our eyes set on playoffs."

The team is excited about their trip to Pennsylvania to play Penn state teams with the hopes that this is a stepping stone for future spring trips to Myrtle Beach. During this off-season, the team has been in the weight room working with the strength and conditioning specialists. At the beginning of February, they were able to get into a turf facility to use their batting cages and turf field. All of this is to help the team prepare for the Spring season as they wait for games to start and snow to melt. Everyone has played their part in the success of the team so far. Every player brings something unique to the team that helps the team be who they are. With a team that is perfectly mixed of rookies and returning players, the team looks forward to building off of their solid fall season. The Mustangs home opener will be March 26th when they host UMaine Presque Isle.
