Mustang trio's futures at crossroad

Mustang trio's futures at crossroad

Auburn, ME – With the end of the academic year upon us, we get ready to say our goodbyes to our graduating student-athletes: Reid Cote, Will Bean, and Maria Dostie. As the finish lines to their collegiate athletic careers come into sight, all three have bigger issues looming – in both sports and life.

Reid Cote, from Wales, ME, is graduating from the criminal justice program and looking to attend the Police Academy in August. He has been apart of the baseball program since 2019. This season, Reid is batting .321 with 19 RBIs, 1 HR and 14 runs scored. When asked about what made him want to join the police force, Cote responded, "I first wanted to join the police force because I have a lot of friends in the force and they speak highly of the profession. I have always been a go getter and proactive person. The role in a law enforcement officer fits my personality and it is something I am looking forward to pursuing."

Will Bean, from Milton Township, ME, is graduating from the Precision Machining Technology program and will be joining the workforce after graduation. Heading into the playoffs, Bean is hitting .282 with 12 RBIs, 1 HR and 21 runs scored. Bean is a hard worker and no doubt will excel in any field he goes into.

After being swept by SMCC last weekend, CM is looking to get a rematch with them in the Yankee Conference Championship Game. However, standing in their way is NHTI. "NHTI has always been a tough competitor and they have a handful of very strong baseball players. We must be on our A game to get through NHTI and hopefully move on to SMCC in the finals," stated Cote.

Maria Dostie, from Lewiston, ME, is graduating from the General Studies program and will be taking a semester off before pursuing a degree in psychology. Her dream job in the psychology field is working with kids with special needs.

With the future of the softball team waiting on receiving a bid for the National Tournament, Dostie goes into this waiting period with a .346 batting average, 7 RBIs and 16 runs scored. Dostie couldn't be more excited about the potential opportunity. "The chance of receiving a bid for nationals is very exciting. We would be the first softball team at CM to go to a national competition. I am just thankful to be a part of this team. We have worked hard to get where we are and receiving the bid would mean that all of our hard work has paid off."

With graduation next week, Cote, Bean and Dostie have big questions to answer about their futures. But with playoffs starting this week for baseball and a watch party for a potential National Tournament bid on Sunday for the softball team, their focus is appropriately narrowed. Regardless of the outcome, we wish them the best of luck in their next adventure and remind them that they will always be a Mustang!
