Women's Basketball wins DII National Championship

Auburn, ME - The women's basketball team returned to Auburn Saturday after winning the USCAA DII National Championship on Thursday night. They arrived with a police escort courtesy of the Auburn Police Department and were greeted by a crowd of friends and family. 

 

After being up 30-23 at halftime, the Mustangs raced to a 63-35 victory over Penn State Schuykill to claim their third national championship in five years. Myah Nicholas led CM with 13 points off the bench with Kali Thompson finishing with 10 points of her own. Penn State was forced into 30 turnovers while only shooting 23.5% from the field. On the other end, CM shot 31.3% from the field and a crucial 76.5% from the free throw line. 

Leading up to the National Championship game, CM defeated conference rival UMA 45-39. Eliza Brault led the team with 19 points and 5 rebounds. That would end up being the closest game for them in the tournament. In the semifinal game, the Mustangs took on the University of Cinicinnati-Clermont at Virginia State University. They cruised to a 70-56 win with Eliza Brault, Luna Love and Safena Te Nana-Williams pacing the team with each finishing in double figures. 

At the conclusion of the championship game, Emily Strachan was named to the All-Tournament Team and Eliza Brault was named Tournament MVP! The team finished 28-3 on the season.
