Mustangs Lose on the Road at Machias

Auburn, ME - Two days after their home opener, the Lady Mustangs traveled to UMaine-Machias to take on the Clippers. After getting all their nerves out of the way in their first game two days earlier, Central Maine settled in right from the start and began to play, creating some good opportunities at the Clipper net in the opening minutes. It took Machias eight minutes to get on the score board, but even after that it was a two-way game up and down the field and it took them another eight minutes to get a second goal. The Clippers capitalized on a few defensive mistakes and took a 4-0 lead into half time.

A tightened up Mustang defense with Dakota Goguen and Cheyenne Gray holding the middle, caused the Clippers to begin shooting from longer range and they managed to score on some very well placed long shots over the head of Mustang keeper Shantel Camber. Central Maine continued to play, continued to move the ball down the field and twenty-six minutes into the second half, midfielder Megan Duval put a nice ball over the top of the Clipper defense to freshman forward Jaden Arcelaschi, who beat the Machias defender in a 1v1 and shot past the Clipper goalkeeper to earn her first collegiate goal.

The game ended with Machias over Central Maine 11-1, but the score was no indication of the game. The Mustangs corrected many of the mistakes from Friday's game, and the overall quality of the game was a lot better. They will continue to improve as they look forward to playing Unity College at home on Friday, September 9.
