Lady Mustangs Soccer Adds Offensive Threat with Dirigo Forward

Auburn, ME - Dirigo High School senior captain, Brittany Greig, has committed to play soccer for the Central Maine Community College Mustangs.  She comes to CM after an outstanding senior year in which she earned Honorable Mention as a Mountain Valley Conference All-Star, Lewiston SunJournal Second Team All-Star, and team Most Valuable Player for Dirigo.  In addition, her selection as a Maine Soccer Coaches Class C South Regional All-Star earned her a spot in the annual Senior Bowl which was played in November at Husson University where she was teamed up with fellow incoming Mustang recruit, goalkeeper Ali Sult from Lisbon.

Dirigo Head Coach Josh Shaw commented that Brittany "is a striker by nature but had to be used as a midfielder for us due to her experience as a player on an otherwise inexperienced team.  She was needed to control the middle for us and create our attack.  One of her highlights was scoring a hat trick including the game winner in overtime in a come-from-behind victory against Boothbay."

According to Central Maine Head Coach, Rob Rodriguez, "Brittany's ability to play both forward and midfield is a perfect fit for us because we teach a very free-flowing, possession style of play with a lot of movement in and out of the middle.  A player with her versatility becomes a very important part of our ability as a team to change formation within a game to keep our opponents off-balance.  We are definitely a team on the rise and being able to surround our returning core with players who can step in immediately to make an impact will be very important if we are to reach our goal this season of competing in the top part of a very competitive conference."

According to Greig, "I chose CM because of the strong reputation of the criminal justice program and am looking forward to getting her degree in that field.  I also able to visit with the team when they were in the weight room and I liked how close everyone seemed to be and liked the fitness center and the dining hall."

When asked how she thinks playing at the collegiate level will differ from high school Greig mentioned that, "I think it will be more active and focused on what needs to be done to have a great season.  I am looking forward to the Criminal Justice Program, to making new friends on the team, and I think I can bring some pretty aggressive offense."

Playing for the Mustangs, Brittany will be re-united with former Dirigo player Ellie Jasper.
