South Portland, ME - The Lady Mustangs traveled to South Portland today for a non-conference game with Southern Maine Community College and continued to show some huge steps forward in their progress. The Seawolves drew first blood with a goal off a corner kick in the 11th minute of the first half, and their lead lasted about 17 minutes until freshman midfielder Ellie Jasper found Megan Duval on a through ball who shot it past the SMCC keeper. The half was one of the most evenly played up and down the field that the Mustangs have had all season. Halftime saw the score knotted up at 1-1.

The second half was much the same as the first with both teams moving the ball well the length of the field and the defense on both sides holding tough. The Seawolves definitely had the edge in shots and Mustang goal keeper Shantel Camber worked her magic in the net turning their shots away. The score remained at 1-1 until the final twelve minutes of the game when the Mustangs, playing with only one substitute finally began to run out of gas. With the Central Maine midfield giving up ground from exhaustion, the Seawolves were able to put five quick goals in to take command of the game. With just over two minutes remaining in the game, freshman Dakota Goguen, was able to work the ball up to Megan Duval, who took it to goal to beat the Southern Maine goalkeeper for her second goal of the game.

With a final score of 6-2, the Mustangs were disappointed in giving away a game in the final 12 minutes, but walked away knowing that they are taking huge steps forward in every game. Central Maine travels to Rutland, Vermont next Sunday, September 18 to take on the Fighting Saints of College of Saint Josephs Vermont.
