Men's Soccer bests Seawolves, advances to YSCC Championship

Concord, NH - The CM Men's Soccer team played Southern Maine Community College in Concord, NH Saturday morning in the Yankee Small College Conference semifinal. The Seawolves found themselves on top 1-0 just five minutes into the match when a low cross deflected off a Mustang defender. The goal was credited to Eriksen Shea.

The game proceeded with a opportunities from both teams coming from set pieces. At 33:07 the Mustang's Abdibaari Hersi served a corner kick in which found Mohamed Matan who headed the ball in drawing the score even at one a piece. That score held through the end of the first half.

At 72:35 Mohamed Abdikadir regained possession in CM's half, dribbled forward and provided Suab Nur with a nice low through ball. Nur ran onto the ball, took a touch around the SM goalkeeper and calmly finished the play putting the Mustangs on top 2-1. That was all CM needed to win the game. Abdullahi Abdullahi had three saves for CM while Joshua Nagle had six stops for SM.

The Mustangs roll on the Yankee Conference Championship where they will face Paul Smith's College. After the game Head Men's Soccer Coach, Bryan Wallace, said, "We are really pleased with how our midfield played today. There were several periods throughout the game where we were able to hold the ball and create chances with possession. I have no doubt that Paul Smith's College is a stronger group now than when we played them a month ago in New York. Our guys have improved as well and I am looking forward to the match."
