Women's Basketball tags Moose, clinches 7th straight YSCC Regular Season Championship

Auburn, ME - The Mustangs left little doubt who the top team in the Yankee Conference is, as they dominated UMaine Augusta in a thrilling 74-54 victory Tuesday night. CM, who led by as much as 34 points in the 3rd quarter, clinched their 7th straight YSCC Regular Season Championship, earning the #1 seed in the conference tournament next month.

Ella Lavigne dominated the Moose for the second time this season. She finished with 26 points, 16 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals. Molly Corbett caught fire in the first half hitting 4 of her 5 triples to finish with 15 points. Destiny Mora Lopez was the third and final Mustang in double figures hitting for 10 points and 5 rebounds.

Despite significant foul trouble, the Mustang defense held the Moose to their lowest point total of the season. Chantel Ouellette drew another offensive foul while also recording 7 assists and 6 rebounds. Riley Hebler took two offensive fouls of her own. Jolien Defoort was rock solid on the defensive end while also contributing 9 points. CM held UMA to 26.2% shooting, 17.6% from the three point line, and out-rebounded them by +22.

Alizabeth Dumont led the Moos with 15 points.

After the game, Head Women's Basketball Coach, Andrew Morong, commented, "This was a huge win and a total team effort on defense. Although we pushed the lead to over thirty, I feel as though we could have played a lot better. We dealt with significant foul trouble with two of our starters on the bench most of the game, we turned the ball over an obscene amount of times, and we did not shoot particulary well. However, we dominated the boards and really forced UMA to take tough shots. The crowd was fantastic and we really appreciate the support from the students, faculty, staff, and families who were loud and proud all game."

With the win the Mustangs improve to 18-1 overall and 10-0 in the Yankee Conference. They will be back in action on Friday, February 2nd when they travel to Concord, NH to take on the Lynx of NHTI (6:00pm).
