CM Out Shoots Dartmouth College to win 6-3

Auburn, ME- The Central Maine Mustangs win their first game of the season tonight beating Dartmouth College in non-varsity ACHA men's hockey action at the Norway Savings Bank Arena. Billed as the official home opener, a near capacity crowd of over 675 witnessed a concerted and methodical effort to beat a skilled but under manned Dartmouth team.

Dartmouth's Emerson Mahoney opened the scoring early in the first period on a goal from McCorkle and Gardner. Central Maine answered with a Matt Poulin tally from Jordy Knoren and Robbie Berube.

Central Maine seemed to learn from their mistakes during Wednesdays tilt vs UMaine-Orono, turning the other cheek and skating away from conflict to avoid retaliatory penalties. "We talked about it in practice and before the game. Some teams are good instigating and getting away with it. It is the retaliatory penalty that always gets called" said CM Head Coach Kevin Cady. Cady collected his first ACHA win as a coach in only his second attempt.

CM's Evan Sullivan and Dartmouth's Harvey traded goals to open the second period while Matt Poulin from CM notched his second goal of the game to put CM ahead by one.

Dartmouth's Sam Forstner scored his fifth goal of the season to open the third period which was the Dartmouth's last of the evening. Central Maine's goalie Kenny Miller shut the door for good while CM's team captain, Matt Henderson, put on a skating show scoring two third period goals cemented by Evan Sullivan's second goal of the game.

CM's goaltender Kenny Miller stopped 30 Dartmouth shots many on 2 on 1 defensive breakdowns early in the game. Dartmouth goalie Dan Brimberry was exceptional stopping 42 shots by a CM team pumped-up by a big home crowd.

Mustang's Caleb LaBrie had two points, Steve Mercia, Dylan Farrell-Reny, Berube and Henderson rounded out with one assist a piece.

Central Maine is 1 and 1 on the season and back in action this Sunday at 10am at Auburn's Norway Savings Bank Arena in back-to-back action vs Dartmouth College.
