CM defeats Harvard on late goal

Auburn, ME - The Central Maine Mustangs notched their 10th win of the season besting Harvard University 6-5 in ACHA hockey action at the Norway Savings Bank Arena.

The game was tight from the start as CM jumped to a an early lead on goals by Matthew Henderson and Charles Campagna. Harvard answered back at 6:09 of the first period with a goal by Aiden Cleary. Charles Campagna snipped his second goal of the game while Harvard's Jamie Quirrel scored to send the teams off the ice at the end of the first with the score CM 3 Harvard 2.

The second period saw Harvard's Aiden Cleary snipe a blast from just inside the blue line that rocketed glove side top shelf on CM's Kenny Miller to tie the game at 3. Harvard continued their momentum when Ryan LaMonica found the back of the net to inch up by a goal. CM's Dylan Farrell-Reny drove home a snapshot from the left point that beat Harvard goalie Jon Hamilton to end the second period.

In the third Harvard struck first in the see-saw game when Swedish forward Anders Anderbjorn stole the puck outside CM's defensive zone making a nifty move that put Harvard in the lead 5-5. The never say die Mustang's went back to work and with less than three minutes in the game Matthew Henderson notched his second goal of the game. At 19:15 of the third period Charles Campagna scored his third goal to give him the hat trick and sealed the win for Central Maine.

Kenny Miller stopped thirty-five shots on the night to earn the win while  Jon Hamilton in Harvard's stopped thirty-two shots.

 CM's Head Coach, Kevin Cady, said "I called on Campagna  to have a strong game; particularly in the neutral and defensive zone. He was lined with Evan Sullivan and Matthew Henderson and they really clicked. Winning our tenth game of the season on fifteen tries is a nice milestone for us."

The Mustangs are back in action tomorrow afternoon vs Bentley College at the Norway Savings Bank Arena in Auburn at 3:20pm.
