Men's Ice Hockey wins in shootout

Auburn, ME - The Central Maine Mustangs outlasted Bridgton Academy's Prep team at the Norway Savings Bank Arena Friday night in a rare overtime shootout win.

 Bridgton Academy jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first before CM's Joshua Noyes too a pass from Matt Henderson to put the Mustangs on the board. Caleb LaBrie took a long stretch pass from Cade Chapman and dangled past BA's defenseman and finished with a spectacular goal to tie the game at two. BA went into the dressing room up 3-2 at the end of the second. Central Maine played a strong second period in all three zones and CM goalie Tyler Freil exceptional in net.

The third period was all Central Maine when Matt Poulin tied the game with an assist from Caleb LaBrie. The near capacity crowd got nervous after CM's Sedrick Simons was flagged for a five-minute major and BA took a two minute minor for tripping. The resulting four on four opened the ice up and both fast skating and skilled teams traded quality scoring opportunities. Expertly killed-off the remaining three minutes of the Simons major penalty late in the third to force sudden death overtime.

The game went into extra periods for a five minute four-on-four sudden death overtime. The goaltenders were phenomenal trading save for save at both ends ending in yet another tie.

In the shootout CM's Matt Henderson and Caleb LaBrie both displayed their one-on-one skills to score leading the Mustang's to a 4-3 victory.

Central Maine improves their record to 5-2 overall and 4-2 in ACHA action.

The Mustang's hockey team is back in action Saturday night against Tufts University in Boston.
